Provided that the torn fabric is “collable”, we always repair with RipStop adhesive fabric. Here are the reasons:
- it is very strong since the adhesive fabric is also used during manufacturing to strengthen certain parts.
- It is very discreet. The adhesive fabric is available in a multitude of colors and also in translucent white.
- It’s very economical. It’s fairly quick. If necessary, when the tear is at the edge of a panel, the seam is undone to reconstitute the torn part before stitching.
We use our “home” products, adhesive fabric RipStop for repair delivered in sheets A4 or pack A6 (mixed)
- entire sheet
- 15 to 30 mm diameter patches
- GECKO system (strips specially cut to fit complex 3D shapes)
Method for the repair of tears
We have for principle, if it is possible (if the 2 sides of the fabric are “stickable”), to apply adhesive fabric for the repair of tears
- a fairly large piece of translucent white adhesive fabric inside the paraglider
- Another smaller, color as close as possible to the torn fabric on the outside.
The reasons are mechanical and optical. It is of course more solid to put 2 pieces. With their different dimensions, we have a smooth transition that is both stronger, more aesthetic and more discreet.
