BRAKES | The right setting

The setting of the main brake lines is determined by the manufacturer and controlled by the dealer during the test flight of a new paraglider.

This value is also checked during the periodic check of the paraglider.

To be controlled by full acceleration

The accelerator acts on the A and B branches of the risers, which rotate the profile on the last row of lines. Thus, the trailing edge rises when accelerating!
The brakes must be set long enough not to pull the trailing edge when fully accelerating.

  • What can be expected from a too short adjustment?

It’s dangerous !!! The paraglider thus “pre-braked” no longer has the characteristics validated by the certification tests. Contrary to what most people think, the surges are stronger and there is a great risk of falling into the wing in the event of flying incidents!!!

  • What can be expected from setting too long?

It may be uncomfortable, but not much more. This can still interfere with take-off when you want to avoid the wing overtaking you and on landing when you want to make a nice flair… or even to help reopen a huge collapse!
Personally, I don’t like flying with a paraglider that has the brakes set too long.

The range of usable settings is quite small. A good solution is to use brake stop extensions!
This allows you to shift the brake action range up by 10 or 15 cm.
